Boyz In The Hood!

So we the sociology class watched the movie called “Boyz in the Hood” which yields such a major part of sociology reverences such as – Relationships, drugs, violence, family life, education, respect, and responsibility.  So with this being said I will discuss the views of the seven sociological stand point of each and every single point I listed.

So starting with Relationship – during the duration of the movie we get to see the variety of different relationships, from father and son, boyfriend and girlfriend, friend and friends that act like brothers. So anyways starting off with father and son, when Tre went to go stay with his father during so he can learn a little something about growing up. When he got to his dads house he was still little angry but as soon as his dad started talking about things that he needs to do in the house he immediately asks well what do you do in the house and he says “I bill the bill”. During the night someone broke into the father’s house, the dad grabs his 3.57 magnum and shot at the burglars head but missed. Which this brought up more points for the father to explain to Tre about growing up when Tre mentioned that he should’ve blown the guy’s head off, the father whose name is furious said “No Tre, that’ll, means that another brother is killed and that’s what they want”. The next morning Tre went over to his friend Dough boy house, and him and dough boy and dough boys brother, went to hang out with Chris. While hanging out they stumble on the wrong side of the “hood” and saw a dead body that was rotting in the blazing sun, when gang members walked up to them and asked for the boys football and that he’ll give it back, but as soon as he threw it to the gang member he walked off with it and the Ricky brother tried to get it back…. Flash forward Tre and furious were fishing and again Tre’s father asks Tre if he knew anything about “sex” and Tre replied with yeah, you stick your thing into her thing”. With that said pierce replied “Any fool can make a child, it takes a man to take care of that child”.

Next relationship is going to be – boyfriend and girlfriend – Tre has a girlfriend can’t remember what her name is. But anyway while all of his friends already had sex with women, and Tre tries to hide the fact that he is stills a virgin to escape the ridicule from his friends. But when he goes back to his father’s house to bring him food from the barbeque his dad “sniffs” then he asks him did you get “
“some” and Tre is like yeah I got some tells his father a complete lie about how he got it. Thus his dad then says that Tre I’ve told you to use protection just because she’s on the “pill” doesn’t mean she still can’t pregnant. So to bring his girlfriend into this when he asked her when she’s going to have “sex” she replied with when im married because I want to go to college and I don’t want to have sex with you because im not even sure if im actually going to marry you which shot Tre up.

The next relationship is going to be – friends that act like brothers- so when all the boys are together on doughboys porch they’re joke around by horsing around, name calling, which brings to the point that they’re friends and more than that they’re brothers.  And no matter what goes wrong inside the inner circle of brothers they’ll always come back and have each other’s back.

Violence in the hood is a major part in the hood because there’s shooting, fighting, gang wars, block wars, riots, and shoot outs, So on the movie when dough boys brother got shot all because he confronted a guy that shoulder shoved him for no reason once so ever. Thus for a couple of days they guy that shoulder shoved him would drive by his home, but once he was asked to go to the store, on the way back he was shot twice by a double barrel shot gun, which is ironic because the same day he got shot he received his test score and he received a 710 scoring but unfortunately for him he dies before being able to know what he got.

Drugs is also a major part of the hood because (not trying to sound stereotypical, or racist when I say this) the more drugs the more money intake the hood gets, like in the movie after Tre left the barbeque there was a baby in the middle of the road about to hit by a car, the baby belonged to an addicted drug user that when confronted on the baby in the she asked if he had cocaine, and that if he had she’d suck is “dick” for it. This proves to my statement above in this paragraph that drugs are a major part in the hood, with the factor of both the money intake, and the addiction that people have, are the real factors that cause all the brutal killings, thefts, and burglaries that go on in the hood.

In the movie we see that Tre’s father tries and tries to teach him responsibility in life, which proved useful further on in the movie. Case in point that when at the barbeque when Ricky’s son comes out crying he goes and takes care of him till his mom takes him. When Ricky had gotten shot dough boy went and found the guy that shot him as an act of responsibility to his brother Ricky.

Respect is another thing that you see in the hood majorly because you see gang members showing other fellow gang members of the same gang respect, family members respect, stuff like that. Tre’s has respect for his father and his friend which you can clearly see in the film. Same thing goes for dough boy he as respect for Tre and his family and his friends. So therefore respect is a major thing everywhere you turn no matter how little it is presented it is still there.

Education in the movie to Ricky and Tre was important, because Ricky wanted to further his career in football so he applied for a scholarship which he took the test and got 710 on the test which he only needed 700 to get the scholarship he needed to get him into college and play football.  Tre also to further his education so he also took the test to get some scholarships test score unknown, but at the end of the film he gets into college. Which (again not trying to sound racist or stereotypical) not a lot of people from the hood get into college.

Family life in the hood and in the movie can be a little to judge and tell because there are a lot of people that have kids. But in the movie Tre’s father shows the fatherly manly side that Tre needed to be, Ricky took care of his son with pride. So pretty much I can say that the family life in the movie is strong like a brother hood.
